A Bold New Chapter for Alberta Tourism
Fortress Mountain has been part of Alberta's mountain landscape for decades. Ridge North America and Western Securities have submitted an application under the All-season Resorts Act to revitalize this iconic site as a proposed all-season mountain destination in Kananaskis Country.
This is the early stage of a rigorous process. The project requires regulatory approval from the Government of Alberta and the team is committed to meaningful consultation with Indigenous communities, local governments, environmental organizations and the public.

Fortress Mountain sits within Kananaskis Country, one of Alberta's most celebrated natural landscapes. The surrounding alpine terrain, lakes and wildlife habitat have drawn visitors from across Canada and beyond for decades.
On December 10, 2025, the Government of Alberta designated Fortress Mountain Resort as one of three All-Season Resort Areas in the province. Under that designation, Ridge North America and Western Securities identified Fortress partnered to bring forward an application for a premier resort on the land.
What Is Being Proposed
The Master Plan envisions a phased approach to development, beginning with day-use facilities and progressing over time to a full all-season resort. No development proceeds without the required regulatory approvals at each phase.
In the initial phase, the focus is on day visitors, with an emphasis on summer, fall and spring activities. The centrepiece of Phase 1 is a lift-accessed sightseeing experience, supported by a range of nature-based amenities.
Over the longer term, the plan envisions winter and summer programming, overnight accommodations including tourist lodgings, employee housing and real estate – all integrated into the alpine environment. A mixed-use resort core includes pedestrian plazas, short- and long-term accommodation options, commercial amenities and spa facilities.
The Regulatory Process
The All-season Resort Branch of the Government of Alberta is currently reviewing our application, under the regulations of the All-season Resorts Act.
As part of that process, the project team recently wrapped a 30-day public notice period, during which Albertans could review the Master Development Plan, attend open-house listening sessions and submit written comments. We are currently reviewing those comments and will summarize our findings and next steps. Results of that process will be posted here when available.
The project team is actively consulting with Treaty 7 First Nations, consistent with the provincial framework and the project team's commitment to long-term relationships.
We are committed to incorporating input and advice from the public and Indigenous consultation processes, as well as engaging technical experts as we refine our plans for the resort.
